Basal Dulane Ellis, a beloved son, brother, Dad, Papa, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on April 15, 2026. Born on September 4, 1949, in Dresden, Tennessee. He spent many years in Lansing, MI, before he retired to Dresden, TN, a town which he loved and cherished.

Basal was known for his warm spirit and his ability to always make people laugh. His infectious humor and easygoing nature brought joy to countless friends and family members throughout his life. An avid enthusiast of country and line dancing, Basal found happiness in these lively pastimes, often sharing his passion on the dance floor with those around him. Basal was an avid hand and foot card player, a game he enjoyed playing many times through the week. Basal was also a faithful member of Sand Hill Baptist Church. He was well known for his love for his Lord, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his son, J.D. Ellis, and daughter, Dresden Ruth Ellis. He is also fondly remembered by his sisters Phyllis (Dick) Fhaner, Linda Kay (Jack) Roberts, and Judy Schiebner. Basal is survived by his grandchildren Avery Ellis and Alyssia Juarez, as well as his step-grandchildren Robbie, Jeremiah, Anson, and Layla. In addition to his family, Basal leaves behind many dear friends. Basal was preceded in death by his parents, James Ellis and Nellie Evaughn Auvenshine, and his brothers, Russell Ellis and James Wesley Ellis, who remain in the loving memories of all who knew them.

The community will have the opportunity to honor Basal’s life during the visitation, held at Bowlin Funeral Home, located at 279 W Main Street, Dresden, Tennessee 38225. The visitation will take place on April 18, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and again on April 19, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM on April 19, 2026, at the same location. The service will be officiated by Bro. Donald Doster, providing a meaningful farewell to a man whose presence enriched many lives.

Interment will take place following the service at Sunset Cemetery, where Basal will be laid to rest with dignity and honor, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the place he called home.

In this time of sorrow, Basal Dulane Ellis is remembered not only for his infectious laughter and vibrant personality but also for the deep love and connections that defined his life's journey. His legacy of humor and dancing will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
