Hazel Ann Purdum, born on June 21, 1960, in Chicago, IL, passed away at her home on January 14, 2026. She lived a life marked by love, service, and a passion for the simple joys of the world around her.
Hazel was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where she served as a communication specialist. Her dedication to her country was only surpassed by her devotion to her family. She held a bachelor's degree and was known for her steadfast work ethic and commitment to excellence in all her endeavors.
An avid lover of the beach and dolphins, Hazel found great joy in nature. She had a deep appreciation for music and cherished the moments spent singing and dancing, often bringing joy to those around her with her infectious spirit.
Hazel is survived by her beloved son, John (Sabrina) Wright, and daughter, Vanessa (Kyle) Purdum-Smith. She was also a proud grandmother to six treasured grandchildren. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is remembered fondly by her brother, Bill Purdum, and sister, Kathleen Frenyea.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Dale Purdum and Mary Sherrick, as well as her brothers, Dale and Troy Purdum. They shall forever hold a place in her legacy.
A memorial service to honor Hazel’s life and legacy will be announced at a later date. As we remember Hazel Ann Purdum, we celebrate the love she shared and the indelible mark she left on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
