James William ""Bill"" Brann

James W. "Bill" Brann, age 89, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

A native of Palmersville, TN Bill was born August 16, 1925. His parents, Mr. Jim Boyd Brann and Mrs. Vera Workman Brann and a sister, Ruth Brann Tuck, preceded him in death.

He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, having served during WWII from 1943 to 1946 - a member of our Nation's Greatest Generation. He served aboard Landing Ship Tank (LST) 690 in both the European and Asia Campaigns.

After his service in the Navy, Bill returned to Dresden, TN, and soon married Wanda Rogers. Bill and Wanda worked in the Dresden area until relocating to Memphis, where he retired as lead mechanic from Spector Red Ball Motor Freight Company in 1982.

Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a life-long member of the Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wanda Rogers Brann, daughters, Mary Brann Cavin (Dennis) of Gallatin, TN, Jennifer Brann Shettles of Jackson, TN, and Becky Brann Caughron, of Obion, TN. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Shirley Brann Hunter of Jackson, TN, and five grandchildren, Brandie Cavin Cole (Jason), Gallatin, TN, Staff Sergeant Jason Shettles, El Paso, TX, Lindsey Shettles Mitchell (Gary), Waynesboro, TN, Staff Sergeant Trice Caughron, (Casey) Scott Air Force Base, IL, and Christina Caughron Romo (Evan), Troy, MO. Bill was also the proud great-grandfather of seven.

Funeral services were February 20, 2015 at 2:00PM at Bowlin Funeral Home in Dresden, TN. Interment followed in Sunset Cemetery, Dresden, TN. Dr. Barry Scott, Pastor Aldersgate United Methodist Church officiated the services.

Pallbearers will be LTG (Ret) Dennis Cavin, SSG Jason Shettles, Jason Cole, David Hunter, Evan Romo and Gary Mitchell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 801 N Randolph St., Suite 1228, Arlington, VA 22203-1978, nmcrs.org; or Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1050 North Parkway, Jackson, TN 38305.
