Listen to Obituary

Mr. Joe Ronald Blincoe, age 87, died Wednesday December 13, 2023, at his home in Dallas, TX.  He was born September 12, 1936, in Hickman, Kentucky, to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Davis (Elizabeth Hurt) Blincoe.

Joe’s younger life was spent in Hickman, Kentucky.  He was the second born of five boys who grew up close in age.  He played basketball in school which began his life long love of the game.  After graduating in 1954 from Hickman High School, Joe entered the United States Navy to serve 3 years as a corpsman in the Navy.  Joe primarily was stationed with the United States Marines and for a time at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe Bay.  After his discharge in 1956, he attended Murray State University, where he met the love of his life, the late Julia Nell (Griffith) Blincoe.  The two dated four years at college and were married December 25, 1961.  Joe graduated in 1962 and they moved to Lesterville, Missouri, to begin their teaching careers and start a family. Joe taught PE and business and coached varsity basketball at Lesterville High School.  Joe was active in the Mason’s and was a Scottish Rite Mason.  Joe and Julia had 2 children, Ron and Ellen, before moving to Madras, Oregon, in 1976.  Joe continued to thrive as a teacher for 19 years and varsity basketball coach for 16 years at Madras High School while providing for his tight-knitted family of four.  Joe was an excellent basketball coach and at the time of his retirement he had the most wins as a head coach in Madras, with a program record of 266 wins and 12 state tournament appearances.  He was known for his fierce competitiveness, clever words, and a love of teaching and of coaching kids.  Joe retired from coaching in 1992 and from teaching in1995, but remained active at school as a substitute teacher for many years.  Joe was an adventurer—planning and taking trips with family and friends.  He loved to drive across the U.S. visiting the sites and touring national parks. Joe was quite the trap shooting and hunting enthusiast and enjoyed many hunting trips around Oregon, New Mexico and even to South America.  He was so proud of his 2 kids and 6 grandkids, and family was truly his pride and joy.  He attended First Baptist Church in Madras, Oregon.

Joe spent his last 4 years of his life in the Dallas area to be closer to his daughter.  He struggled with Parkinson’s disease, but remained strong and resilient.  He loved seeing the grandkids play sports and looked forward to all of their visits.  He was never happier than playing cribbage with his 6 grandkids and bragging on his wins.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Ellen (William) Dillard; and grandchildren, Allison, Rachel, Kristen, and Andrew Dillard of Carrollton, TX; daughter-in-law Dawna Blincoe; and granddaughters Erin and Renee Blincoe of Baker City, Oregon; brothers Bob (Donna) Blincoe, David (Sue) Blincoe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth Blincoe; his beloved wife of 59 years, Julia Blincoe; his adored son, Ron Blincoe; brothers Kenneth Blincoe and Buzz Blincoe; sister-in-law Yvonne Blincoe; brothers-in-law and their wives, Charles and Mae Griffith, and Paul and Eloise Griffith.
