Joseph Barry "Joe" Cross

Joseph Barry "Joe" Cross, 74, of Dresden, TN, died Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Funeral services were Monday, March 31, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Sunset Cemetery.

Joe was born in Sharon, TN in the Rock Hill community on March 12, 1940 to the late Joseph Elmo and Wilma Simpson Cross. He was a 1958 Graduate of Sharon High School. Joe moved to Chicago after graduation and married Maritza Umana on April 14, 1963 in Chicago. He returned to Sharon in March 1965 to accept a position working the right-of-way at Weakley County Municipal Electric System. He was promoted to Lineman in December 1971, promoted to Foreman in November 1989, promoted to Operating Superintendent in January 1998 and retired in December 2000. Joe was a member of Macks Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary Simpson Cross.

Joe is survived by his wife, Maritza Umana Cross of Dresden, TN; and three sons, Michael (Tina) Cross of Murfreesboro, TN, Barry (Amanda) Cross of Jackson, TN and Joseph (Beth) Cross of Martin. He is also survived by five grandchildren and a sister, Joyce (Bill) Wade of Sharon, TN.
