Marsha Gail Walker Oliver passed away on Wednesday July 19th, 2023, at the age of 79. After gracefully battling Alzheimer’s for several years, Marsha peacefully went Home.
Marsha was born May 13, 1944. Little did she know she would share her birthday for many years with her loving husband, Terry Oliver- born on the same day in 1941. Her parents, Lexie and Dorothy Walker, raised her in Martin, Tennessee, where she graduated from Martin High School and was a cheerleader for her beloved Martin Panthers.
Marsha greeted countless patrons with her contagious smile throughout her many years as a salesclerk at Kemp’s in Dresden. She was an honest and caring source of help for those who were deciding on a classy new outfit, their exciting wedding registry, or a special gift for a loved one. “Mrs. Marsha” was also instrumental in creating fun memories as anxious shoppers purchased the perfect engagement ring. She cherished these big moments and loved every minute of her job as she engraved, polished, and put her shine on everything she touched.
After her retirement, she continued to be involved in her community through volunteering at local schools, at her church, and of course, during her favorite time of year- when it’s Iris Time in Tennessee. She also spent many days as a taxi driver proudly taking her grandkids to and from their countless activities.
Marsha’s ability to listen and her honest, witty personality found many looking to her for guidance and advice throughout the years. Her unconditional love for others, heartfelt hugs, perfect greeting cards, and ability to host the best family gatherings has left us all with the most precious memories.
Family members will be celebrating the life of Marsha on Sunday, July 23rd at 1 PM with a graveside service at West Union Cemetery in Dresden, TN. All friends are welcome to attend.
Marsha is survived by her loving daughters Angie (Rusty) Morris of Gleason and Melissa Overton of Dresden. Her proudest accomplishment was being called “Nannie” by her three grandchildren: Katelyn and Rance Morris, and Lakin Overton. She is also survived by some special family members: Sandra Oliver Ray of Jackson, MS, David (Beverly) Oliver, Beth Oliver, and Kitty Oliver of Gleason, and Kitty Walker of Palmyra, VA. “Aunt Marsha” also has numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own. She is preceded in death by her husband Terry Jay Oliver, her parents Lexie & Dorothy Walker, brother Donald Walker, and special in-laws Patsy Oliver, T.J. and Louise Oliver, Paul Oliver, Larry Ray, and Johnny Oliver.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Terry Oliver FFA Foundation or to Dresden First United Methodist Church.
All donations made to the Terry Oliver FFA Foundation help active FFA members in the Weakley County School System by providing financial aid and ensuring every member is able to purchase an FFA jacket and attend FFA convention.
