Neil Shanklin, 89, of Latham, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Weakley County Rehab and Nursing Center in Dresden. Funeral services were Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 2:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church near Latham, TN with burial following in the Church Cemetery.

Neil was born near Latham, TN on January 18, 1923 to the late Irvin Allen and Idis Adealia Carr Shanklin. He was the former Head of Maintenance for Ferry Morse Seed Co., a farmer, and a United States World War II Army Veteran - Horse Cavalry. He was a member of Palmersville Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Hutcherson Shanklin; one son, Freddie Shanklin; and four brothers, Layne Shanklin, Boise Shanklin, Hale Shanklin, and J. C. Shanklin.

Mr. Shanklin is survived by two sons, Frank (Dianne) Shanklin of Dresden and Barton Shanklin of Macomb, IL; two sisters, Marye Lou Connaughton of Naperville, IL, and Robbie Nell (Walter) Makous of Birmingham, AL; one grandson, Steven Neil (Michelle) Shanklin of Martin and three great grandchildren, Alexis Grace, Sydney Claire, and Andrew Asa Shanklin.
