Richard Lee Tidwell, fondly known as "Dick," passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Born on May 11, 1940, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Dick lived a life defined by service and dedication. He proudly served as a Captain in the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement during ground operations in Vietnam from July 1968 to 1969. His commitment to public service continued throughout his civilian life. Dick served as Weakley County Finance Director from 1986 to 1992 and as City Administrator of Martin from 1992 until his retirement in 2004. Even after retiring, he contributed to his community through his work with the Northwest Tennessee Human Resource Agency until 2021. Additionally, Dick served as a Weakley County Commissioner, Alderman for the City of Dresden, and was an active member of Southside Church of Christ.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Helen Tidwell; his brother, Gary Tidwell; his second wife, Madolyn Tidwell; and a grandson, Wil Thomas Levister.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Bettye Webb Tidwell; his daughter Juli Nordberg (Mike Siegel) of Downingtown, PA;  Jeffery (Kimberly) Mayo of Dresden, TN; Jennifer (Steve) Blackstone of Dresden, TN; Julie (Carlos) Cabrera of Franklin, TN; Chris Stafford Sr. (Lynell Harber) of Germantown, TN; Cynthia (David) Coleman of Herculaneum, MO; and Cassandra (William "Bill") Buchanan of Spring, TX. He is also survived by his sister Becky (Joe) Rumph of Fort Smith, AR; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A pillar of strength for his family, Dick was lovingly known as "Popa," always ready to offer guidance and support. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
