Mr. Rubbert Lee Dean Jr., age 61 of Martin, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City, Tennessee.
Mr. Dean was born on June 21, 1963, in Houston, Texas to Mrs. Beatrice Veer Dean and the late Rubbert Dean, Sr. He attended elementary and middle school in Freeport, IL. His family moved to Palmersville, TN in 1977. Rubbert attended school in Palmersville before his family moved to Martin. He was a 1981 graduate of Westview High School.
Upon graduation, Rubbert enrolled in the United States Navy. He attended basic training in Great Lakes, IL. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. He was a retired house painter for Fulcher’s Home Improvement and The Color Shop. Rubbert was known as a very skilled worker. He enjoyed whittling and making wood crafts, being outdoors, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his hugs, love, kindness, humor, . Those who knew Rubbert are blessed to have called him friend, son, dad, grandpa, brother, and uncle. They probably have some crazy stories to tell you about him as well!
In addition to his mother, Mr. Dean is survived by his longtime partner Beth Alexander of Martin, daughter Candace (Candi) Dean (Josh McDaniel) of Memphis, TN, son Clay Dean (Sam Abazaid) of Martin, stepdaughters Ashley Taylor (David Rodriguez) of Troy, TN, and Jesse Tidwell of Union City TN, grandchildren Memphis Hudson of Martin, Max McDaniel of Memphis, Annaliese Taylor and Emmit Rodriguez of Troy, Tinley Sawyers of Union City, and a new granddaughter will be arriving this Spring. He is also survived by his brothers Ron (Debbie) Dean of TX, Glyn Dean of NC, Lexie (Valerie) Dean of Martin and sisters Kim (Kevin) Tracy of TX, Wanda Bellows of Pecatonica, IL and Rubberta (Terry) Powers of Martin.
Mr. Dean was preceded in death by his father Rubbert Dean, Sr., maternal grandparents William and Myrna (Dyson) Veer of Freeport, IL, and paternal grandparents Lexie and Ella Dean of Dyersburg, TN.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Martin First United Pentecostal Church located at 219 Crawford Drive, Martin, TN. Visitation will begin at 11 am with services following at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rubbert’s memory to the Martin Police Department’s “Shop with Sheriff Smith and Justice” Shop with a Cop program, or the charity of your choice.
