Listen to Obituary

Virginia Mae (Perkins) Verdell, 83 of Gleason, TN, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020, at her home. Visitation will be held at Beech Springs Baptist Church in Gleason on Monday, December 21st from 8 am until 11 am with services to follow. Internment will be at Beech Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Verdell, otherwise known as Ginger, made an impact in so many ways during her lifetime. Many people will remember her because of the amazing way she made the keys on the piano come to life. She was an amazing musician and taught piano for over 60 years. Because of that, she has taught many of the piano players in churches all over the area. She was the pianist for the Melody Makers Quartet for 43 years and served faithfully as the piano player at Beech Springs Baptist Church for over 50 years. While music was an important part of her life, her family was most important. They knew her as a great wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She excelled in these things! She loved her family hard! There was never a time when any family members doubted her love for them. Her smile and laughter always filled a room. She was at her happiest when all of the family would get together. Over the last 13 years. dementia has seemed to win each battle along the way. But by the grace of God, she has now overcome dementia, and has won the war! No more forgetting, and no more confusion. She is now thinking clearly and enjoying the beauty of Heaven along with her precious daughter, Regena, and other family members who have gone on before in the presence of Jesus. Ginger is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Billy Verdell of Gleason, two sons, Wendell (Alicia) Verdell of Gleason, and Mitch (Debbie) Verdell of Charlotte, NC, one brother Wayne (Linda) Perkins of Greenfield, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Regena (Phil) Rowlett of Greenfield, her parents John and Nora Perkins of Dresden, sisters Bonnie Crocker of Mckenzie, and Lucille Prince of Sharon, and brothers Wesley Perkins of Dresden, James Perkins of Paris, and Calvin Perkins of Palmersville.
