OUR  HISTORY

Bowlin Funeral Home Inc. History

Welcome to Bowlin Funeral Home

Bowlin Funeral Home carries on a long-standing family tradition of service that began in 1915 in the small community of Jewel, just east of Dresden. That year, Jim and Press Bowlin established Bowlin Brothers and moved the business to Dresden in 1918, opening at the corner of Main and Wilson Streets. In the mid-1920s, they joined forces with Winstead and Jones, forming Winstead-Jones and Bowlin Bros. The business was restructured again in 1938 when Jim Bowlin partnered with his son, S.T., and M.F. Riggs, operating as Bowlin & Riggs Mortuary and continuing to serve the Dresden community.

Where our Journey Began

In June 1959, S.T. and Edith Edwards Bowlin purchased M.F. Riggs' share of the business, officially establishing the name Bowlin Funeral Home. That same year, Jimmy Bowlin Dilday—grandson of founder Jim Bowlin—joined the firm. In 1968, we celebrated 50 years of serving the Dresden community by opening a new facility at 279 W. Main Street. With this move, we remained committed to delivering exceptional care while upholding the high standards set by our founders, Jim and Press Bowlin.

Moving Forward

In February 1974, Jimmy Bowlin Dilday became a partner in Bowlin Funeral Home alongside S.T. and Edith Edwards Bowlin, marking the transition to Bowlin Funeral Home, Inc. By April 1977, Jimmy became the sole owner and continued to serve families from the same location. In October 2024, ownership passed to longtime employee Scotty Brewer and his wife, Allison—just as Jimmy would have wanted. Scotty and Allison remain dedicated to serving families with the same professionalism and compassion that have long defined Bowlin Funeral Home.
